Le Maximum is pleased to present Painting, an exhibition of new works by Greg Gong. The exhibition runs from February 5th to March 27th, 2022.

Gong’s works are striking investigations into the sensuous materiality of paint. Whether squeezing paint directly from the tube, gouging it with fingers and sticks, or layering it with the brush, Gong builds quasi-sculptural surfaces of lustrous color. Underlying grids, repeated gestures, or systems of color complements bring this painterly expenditure under a tenuous control. At a moment when painting seems dominated by the image, Gong indulges the tactile satisfactions of the medium with palpable freedom and risk, conflating our senses of sight and touch. Abstraction in these works is less a means of expression than an intimate engagement with the substance of painting in all of its visceral pleasures and discomforts.

Greg Gong (b. 1971) lives and works in Los Angeles, CA. His paintings have been shown at Luce Gallery, Torino, Italy, Shane Campbell Gallery, Chicago, IL, and at the Museo Nazionale di Capodimonte, Naples, Italy.
